 COPPER AND THE HOME

The Italian Copper Institute has established the first edition of the Copper and the Home award in 2007, a competition created to reward the best ideas and design of components made of copper and its alloys.

The competition is addressed to young architects and interior designers as well as students currently enrolled in higher education graphics, interior decoration and design schools and architecture universities, coordinated by a teacher or professor.

The jury made up by professionals in the sector, such as Alba Cappellieri (critic and interior design professor), Manuela Cifarelli (director of Material ConneXion Milan), Riccardo Giovanetti (designer), Cristina Morozzi (design critic) and Marco Romanelli (Interior designer and critic), has chosen among the large number of proposals, two projects for the Architects and Designers category:

The first prize has been awarded to Francesca Cuicchio - Internoseidesign studios for her Zzz. Object to fight the spreading and development of tiger mosquitoes project
Zzz exploits the bacterial static peculiarity of copper which prevents the proliferation of germs and bacteria. The development of mosquitoes larvae is prevented by positioning this object between the saucer and the vase where water collects after watering.

The second prize went to Francesco Antonino for his project RameCottoRosso. An application
An application for copper, always at center stage, using melted copper tiles in clear and opal glass, creating an highly decorative object for interior decor. Each creation, even the smallest one, will be different from the previous one or the one following.

No prize has been awarded for the Students category, but a special mention has been made for the student of the Politecnico of Milan Alberto Pancotti, for the project Anemone a lamp made of copper pipes
Anemone is a lamp created by joining a number of copper pipes, simply connected by a center strap, which serves the double purpose of giving the lamp stability and housing the wiring and light bulb. Its shape, like the name is inspired by the many filaments of a sea anemone.

The awarded projects, together with others specifically selected ones, will be showcased at the Triennale in Milan in the Material ConneXion space from September 27th to 30th, 2007.

These projects have been appreciated for the innovative ways in which this material has been applied and the research made beforehand on the large number of properties of copper, thus making the Copper and the Home award an important manifesto of the values on which the Italian Copper Institute has based its philosophy.
The large number of proposals received and the quality of the projects are witnesses to the successful outcome of the award and a true incentive for the Italian Copper Institute to propose a new edition for next year.
