Studio 63 Architecture + Design, Showroom DEX spaCommissioned by DEX spa – a company owned by Tanini family –, the new Showroom in Florence of the tuscan company is designed by the team of Studio 63 Architecture + Design.
«Located in Osmannoro, the flat industrial area North of Florence littered with undistinguished warehouses, the project addresses the client request, which was that of giving the building a strong identity in order to make it noticeable among its surroundings.
Unexpectedly a row of trees runs along the plot, and that was the inspiring source that leaded the team to design a quiet and cheering architecture, which dialogues with the context, softly taking place in it but being at same time strongly characterized.
Studio 63 Architecture + Design, Showroom DEX spa As a contrast with most of the buildings in the area, which are solid and set with neon lights and giant advertising billboards, DEX showroom concept is that of silence, dematerialization, and presence/absence.
The guidelines of the project are leaded by the search for a dialogue with the landscape, obtained through the understated elegance of the façade that reflects and amplifies the row.
Made by 270 laser-cut metal frames painted white - which holes change in dimensions and distances - the skin of the building appears like a pixelized picture of the trees that are in front of it.
This kind of metalwork allows the façade to change its aspect according to the change of the external daylight as well as of the night inner light. In this way the skin becomes sort of theatrical flat that mediate the relationship between the outside and the inside.
Studio 63 Architecture + Design, Showroom DEX spaThe façade is interrupted by a long display-window that shows off the inside designed like an art gallery where the products of Devon & Devon and EX.T (the two main brands of DEX spa) are placed and displayed like installations, so to express at their best their singularities and differences.» (text by: Alessandra Orlandoni)

Michael Craig-Martin, Parade, 2008, photo: Christian MosarInfluential British artist Michael Craig-Martin has created two large scale artworks for the new building of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg, using DuPont™ Corian®.
Located in the Kirchberg area of Luxembourg, the East building is linked to the EIB’s existing headquarters, expanding the available workspace to 72,500 square metres. The glass-shelled building is elegant and innovative. Unostentatious, functional, fully transparent and environmentally-friendly, it reflects the priorities of the bank, which is committed to devote a major bulk of its lending to projects aimed at or protecting the environment and especially provides backing for projects that help to combat global warming.
Renowned for his use of bright colours and images of everyday objects to elevate public spaces into works of art, Craig-Martin has produced an 88m long “painting” titled Parade – his largest work to date - for the staff cafeteria, and a “sculpture” set into the floor of the building’s main atrium titled One world. Both installations exploit the special properties of DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces, using inlaying and marquetry techniques, and a range of specially-developed vibrant colours, to create intricate line-drawings on an immense scale.
Michael Craig-Martin has been a driving force in contemporary art for four decades and is considered a key influence on the emergence of the Young British Artists. Throughout his career, he has explored the expressive potential of commonplace objects and brought conceptual art to prestigious public spaces, and his latest work for the EIB reflects both of these themes. Parade is made up of more than 60 overlapping line drawings of everyday objects, while One World consists of 3 drawings of a globe overlaid so as to create an immense single image.

The Hentrich Glass Museum, one of the largest glass collections in Europe reopens and presents its treasures from October 8, 2006.
Its worldwide reputation was initiated by Helmut Hentrich, a renowned Dusseldorf architect who left the legacy of his house and his collections to the City of Dusseldorf with the obligation that it would expand the glass museum. Following extensive preparations by the museum Otto Steiner in Sarnen/ Switzerland, a specialist firm with a proven record in such tasks, was commissioned with planning the new design. The aim of these plans was to develop a form of presentation which not only demonstrates the importance of the Glass Museum Hentrich as one of the world's leading special collections straight away, but which also realises new and attractive ways of presenting this for a wide range of visitors.

Look and Learn Magazine Ltd, a private company that now owns rights to Look and Learn and thirteen other classic British children's magazine mainly from the 1960s and 1970s, is pleased to announce the launch of the www.lookandlearn.com web site.
The magazines in the Look and Learn stable, which had a combined run of almost 200 years, include over half a million illustrations, many millions of words covering most subjects of perennial interest to children, innumerable puzzles and quizzes and over a hundred characters (such as Harold Hare, Gulliver Guinea-Pig, Katie Country Mouse and Wee Willie Winkie).
The purpose of the web site is to revive interest in and encourage private and commercial use of this largely forgotten treasure trove. Above all, however, www.lookandlearn.com aims to become Britain's best on-line picture library for children, parents and teachers. At its launch, the site contains over 10,000 pictures of extraordinary scope and quality, many of them reproduced from the original artworks.

Serpentine Gallery and e-flux announce Agency for Unrealised Projects (AUP) .
For every planned project that is carried out, hundreds of other proposals by artists, architects, designers, scientists and other practitioners around the world stay unrealised and invisible to the public. Agency for Unrealised Projects (AUP) seeks to document and display these works through publications, a developing archive and a physical office, in this way charting the terrain of a contingent future.
The aim of the Agency for Unrealised Projects (AUP), starting from an archive amassed by Hans Ulrich Obrist over the last 10 years and continuing to invite submissions by artists, is to give life to these as yet unachievable plans, by making them available to the public to be disseminated, discussed and most importantly, to be realised.
This is the first in a series of new projects and programmes for the Serpentine Gallery devised by Julia Peyton-Jones, Director, Serpentine Gallery and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Co-Director, Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects.
The Agency for Unrealised Projects (AUP) will also be the first in a programme of research and collaborations with e-flux, under the name Institute for New Social Research, initiated by Julieta Aranda and Anton Vidokle.
