| SPHAUS / MILAN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIR 2007
SpHaus was established in 2004 by Filippo Dell'Orto. The idea behind it is simple: first of all, for a designer to express his own creativity in the first person, not working for someone else but setting up his own business. And then, to start from scratch (something not often done in Italy these days) and set up a business which, while positioned in a tiny, elite niche market, will go down in the history of contemporary design.
This year's furnishings are the product of partnerships with several Italian and international designers. Some of them, like Dodo Arslan and Enrico Cesana of Milan, have been on the spHaus team for years. Others, like Belgian designer Alain Berteau, named best designer of 2006 at the Kortrjik exhibition, and the emerging American talent Cory Grosser, just joined spHaus this year. As usual, they were all recruited by designer Filippo Dell'Orto, the company's artistic director, patron and talent scout.
New products reflect the evolution of the spHaus concept, which made its debut in 2004 with a series of special items introducing the world to the name.
Today, these great pieces of furniture - now true classics of design - are still offered alongside those that appeared in subsequent years and some that are brand new.
