 RIGATOROSA

The path chosen by Raffaele Rigato and Andrea Rosa is probably not a simple one. In fact, their "craftwork research laboratory", a small enterprise that produces furniture and furnishing aiming at reducing the environmental impact, is a firm with a limited range of products but with a philosophy that is increasingly becoming relevant.
The objects created by RigatoRosa are manufactured on a small scale or on request and are all Forest Stewardship Council certified (FSC is a mark set up by WWF, Greenpeace, World Resource Institute, Friends of the Earth and other institutions in 1993.) The objects themselves clearly show that the two designers are deeply interested in all issues about environment and environment preservation and are committed to its safeguarding. That's the reason why they make use of uncommon types of wood and of wood coming only from certified forests administered on a sustainable basis, so that they can contribute to diminish the stress on those areas that are exploited for large scale production. In addition, they pay special attention to finishings and only use non-pollutant and non-toxic materials.
However, their attention to a correct use of materials and building strategies (i.e. they mostly avoid employing glues and metal) doesn't mean neglecting the need for aesthetic research and form. In fact, most of the objects produced are highly communicative also thanks to the materials chosen. For example, Rusco is a solid wood modular bookshelf designed by Rigato and Rosa themselves and produced for its half with wood recycled from Bologna urban waste collected by the association Amici di Piazza Grande. Rusco looks a very simple product, but it's very impressive and manages to inspire emotion because of its visible joints, of the casual matching of different essences and of the natural imperfection of wood, especially of recycled wood.
Tables are also part of RigatoRosa's range of products. Monaco and Diavolo, for example, were designed by Andrea Rosa and Raffaele Rigato and are wholly manufactured with FSC certified wood. For this type of product, they concentrated on joints and created objects that are mechanically assembled and can be completely disassembled.
Nothing can be wasted in RigatoRosa's lab. So, writing sets designed by Andrea Berti are manufactured with wood scraps recycled from the carpenter's plant.
Rigato & Rosa aim at creating a better world with their work and they try to do it as coherently and scrupulously as possible.
